<\/span>Globalization of Economy<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Globalization\nis a phenomenon that we all call a new age of revolution in political, economic\nand socio-cultural aspects. Economically, globalization has resulted in\ninstitutions like IMF, World Band, Asian Development Bank, mainly. Amid the\ninstitutionalization of economy, China stood up as a single entity driving its\nsmart growth tactics and implementing them as part of its colonial penetration\ndisguised as \u201csoft power growth\u201d further referring to non-coercive power\nprojection, mainly in South Asian Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover,\nthis phenomenon has greatly influenced maritime trade patterns and amplified trade\nfrom 2.37 billion to 5.88 billion freight travelling through sea routes. Being\nin a leading position, China has been observed as a key strategist in\nconverting individual economies into one economy through its \u201cOne Belt One Road\nInitiative\u201d\/ \u201cBelt Road Initiative\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/span>Strategic Bi-lateral Relations<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The strategic relations have been on record since 1950\u2019s when China was\nsearching \u2018developing nations\u2019 to ally with. Sino-Indian war (1962) further\nsolidified China-Pak relations while posing India with a two-front theatre of\nthreat. Pakistan as an ally was a strategic choice adopted by China since\nbeginning to fulfil her motives. China helped Pakistan in building up\nconventional and nuclear capabilities over years and built up strong security\nties with Pakistan following by the purpose of shifting India\u2019s focus of\nattention from China to Pakistan, partially if not completely, which it did but\nincreasing India\u2019s security dilemma was not solely China\u2019s politics to be\nblamed on as other factors like Pakistan\u2019s concept of Muslim nation and nuclear\nbomb to be a first Muslim nuclear state hence, China is one of the factor and\nnot the only one.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regarding the military cooperation of the two states, China is said to\nprovide technology to Pakistan without consent of the NSG whereas, China\u2019s\nstance on this says that the transfer of technology was for the peaceful\npurposes. Moreover, the cooperation in economic sector is evident by the major\ninvestment of china worth $46 Billion in the energy sector as a part of bigger\n\u201cCPEC\u201d. There is a debate over the \u2018real scope\u2019 of China\u2019s CPEC initiative in\nSouth Asia and a very highlighting stance pops out that it is in response to\nUS\u2019 \u201cAsia Pivot\u201d policy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/span>OBOR\/BRI\ncorridors:<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Let\u2019s clear this top bottom approach that starts from OBOR (One\nBelt One Road Initiative), encompass CPEC (One of OBOR\u2019s six corridors) and\ninfluences Pakistan (one of CPEC\u2019s key geo-strategic country). As an umbrella\nconcept, OBOR is based on six corridors, of which CPEC is a part. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. CPEC (China\nPakistan Economic Corridor). It connects China\u2019s Xinjiang region with Pakistan,\ngeo-strategically by sea, rail, road and optical fiber.<\/li>
  2. New Eurasian Land\nBridge Economic Corridor.
    \nIt connects China, Mongolia. Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany &\nNetherlands. <\/li>
  3. China-Mongolia-Russia\nCorridor.
    \nAs the name suggests this corridor caters the three connecting countries\nthrough high speed rail and road links.<\/li>
  4. China-Central\nAsia-Western Asian Corridor.
    \nThis corridor caters energy. World\u2019s longest gas pipeline i.e., China-Central\nAsia pipeline already exists which seeks more cooperation in overall energy\nsector having in loop Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan & Xinjiang to\nconnect Middle East with the pipeline too.<\/li>
  5. China-Indochina\nPeninsula Economic Corridor<\/li>
  6. Bangladesh-China-India-Myanmar\nCorridor<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    <\/span>CPEC\n\u2013 Pakistan on road to become Asian Tiger? <\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Pakistan\u2019s vision 2025 foresees Islamic republic of Pakistan to be\nthe next \u201cAsian Tiger\u201d of the region. To achieve such heights, it values its\nbasic seven pillars: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. Sustained Indigenous Inclusive Growth <\/li>
    2. Energy \u2013 Food \u2013 Water Security<\/li>
    3. Democratic Governance & Modernization of Public Sector<\/li>
    4. Human & Social Capital<\/li>
    5. Growth of Private Sector<\/li>
    6. Development of Competitive Knowledge <\/li>
    7. Infrastructural development & Regional Connectivity <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Now what these pillars depict in CPEC projection? It can be summed\nup in four words i.e., Energy, Infrastructure, Gwadar & Industrial\nCooperation which means Pakistan\u2019s reason to join CPEC is mutually beneficial\nfor both China & Pakistan. For China, Pakistan serves as a major\ngeo-strategic state to pursue the plan accordingly and for Pakistan, being\nopportunist evaluates this opportunity to carry forward its vision of economic\ngrowth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      To overcome energy shortages, CPEC\u2019s 56 % portfolio is focused on\nenergy projects that cost around 33 Billion US Dollars. Energy domain is\ndiverse referring to the profit sharing, energy mix, financing and operations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Industry being a key factor for sustainable development for economy\nof any state, this is the major portion that has been included in the long-term\nplanning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. Rashakai Economic Zone <\/li>
      2. Special Economic Zone <\/li>
      3. Bostan Industrial Zone <\/li>
      4. Punjab – China Economic Zone <\/li>
      5. ICT Model Industrial Zone, Islamabad<\/li>
      6. Development of Industrial Park on Pakistan Steel Mills Land at Port\nQasim near Karachi Port Qasim<\/li>
      7. Mir Pur Industrial Zone<\/li>
      8. Mohmand Marble City<\/li>
      9. Moqpondass SEZ Gilgit-Baltistan<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

        China has three strengths; 1) Deep pockets 2) Advance technology 3)\nExperienced management and Pakistan has one unique strength which is the\ncheapest labour in the region. This point of calibration between Chinese\nindustries and Pakistani manpower can help these SEZ\u2019s for their sustainable habitation\nwithout wastage of time and capital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        <\/span>How\nCPEC would benefit Pakistan?<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

        Firstly, it is part of Pakistan\u2019s economic motives to capture\neconomic opportunities to climb up the heights of vision 2025 and its\ndevelopmental strategy. Gwadar is a gateway to Central Asia & South West\nextending from Persian Gulf to Indian Ocean and to Far East. Infrastructural\ndevelopment & energy revival not only prospers and boost economic benefits\nbut allows regional connectivity through railroads, highways and pipelines. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

        Moreover, the least possible amount of revenues is estimated to be\nover 100 Billion US Dollars on account of transit revenue per annum leading to\nhundreds & thousands of employment opportunities. Most of the trade\nrequires sea route to travel therefore, development of Gwadar port is\nbeneficial in terms of connectivity & beneficial trade transit route.
