Construction of Gwadar International Airport begins

Gwadar: Construction activities in Gwadar have started amid the smart lockdown, with prime focus on the construction of Gwadar International Airport. Chairman CPEC Authority Gen Retd Asim Saleem Bajwa has announced that all pending issues in relation to the project are all set to be resolved as the containers carrying the machinery have been granted clearance. He further said that the labor force to work on the project has been mobilized and has been briefed on the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Health and Safety(HSE) Protocols to cope up with COVID-19. 

Gwadar International Airport is situated in Gurandani, almost 26 km NorthEast of the Gwadar City of Balochistan Province. The total budget of the project is $230 million and will be financed by Chinese grants. It will be capable of handling a combination of ATR 72, Airbus, (A-300), Boeing (B-737) and Boeing (B-747) for domestic as well as international routes.
