Funds allocated by RDA for the construction of underpasses in budget

Rawalpindi: According to a news source, Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) allocated funds for Kutchery and Defence Chowk underpasses in budget 2021-22.

Further, according to RDA spokesman, the Governing Body has approved the annual budget 2021-22 of Rs2329.005 million.  He said that two underpasses would be constructed at the most overloaded intersections of the city – Defence Chowk and Kutchery Chowk. RDA will spend Rs2.2 billion to construct the Defence Chowk underpass. While the Kutchery Chowk project would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs3.6 billion.  

Kutchery Chowk would be the first project of its own kind as two-level underpasses would be constructed. Further, the design would be introduced for the first time in Pakistan. Furthermore, RDA allocates Rs1984 million for new development projects, he informed that the ongoing development schemes including construction. Also about widening of Dry Port Road from Rahimabad Flyover at Airport Road to Welfare Complex via Chaklala Railway Station Shell Depot, would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs50 million.

Meanwhile, a district administration spokesperson told the PC-I of the Rawalpindi Ring Road Project. The project had already been sent to the authorities concerned for formal approval. 

 Also, she said efforts were being made to expedite the process. And start the construction work on the project in August, this year. 

She also informed about the 38km long Rawalpindi Ring Road Project to be constructed as per the original plan conceived. And the Ring Road would start from Banth, GT Road and culminate at Thalian. 

The Ring Road would help ease traffic congestion in the city, she further added. 

To a question, she said that construction work on the Ammar Chowk underpass project is in full swing. It will help ease traffic flow on the overloaded intersection.
